Countering terrorism and violent extremism
Learn about Singapore's proactive measures to counter terrorism and violent extremism through early intervention, intelligence operations, and community resilience.
Singapore faces a persistent and evolving terrorism threat. Geopolitical conflicts overseas and the proliferation of terrorist propaganda and extremist narratives, especially in the cyberspace, can have spillover effects on Singapore's internal security. Over the years, a variety of extremist ideologies, such as Islamist extremism and far-right extremism, have found resonance among self-radicalised individuals in Singapore - including a growing number of youths.
ISD is ever-vigilant to these terrorism threats, and takes swift pre-emptive action against individuals who support, promote or attempt to undertake or engage in armed violence, regardless of the ideology involved.
Apart from detecting and neutralising the threats before they can materialise, ISD also works with community partners to rehabilitate radicalised individuals and reintegrate them into society. In addition, upstream outreach efforts by ISD and its partners serve to sensitise the public to the terrorism threat and strengthen the society's resilience against extremist ideologies.
